I have the option for the post thumbnail to be created from the first post image but it’s not working, I’ve had to set the featured image for each article manually. Any help in getting the images to post automatically with the articles would be greatly appreciated!!!

There are no images in the post, so you can’t use them. However there is a picture in the attachment and you tells the plugin to insert it into the top of the post. So if you want to use it for post thumbnail, you have to use “Create from the image media attachment“option.
P.S. When you add a new feed, always use the “Preview mode” drop-down box to examine your post source. For example you can see if it has a media attachment or not.
