I have a bunch of headers and footers using the <!–more–> marker and it is not always selecting one when post is made.

I sent you an email  with login info so you can have a look with your own peepers.

I’ve tried:

<!–more–>1<!–more–>2<!–more–>3<!–more–>etc.

and

<!–more–>1
<!–more–>2
<!–more–>3
etc.

No luck…

I came up with a workaround using the Global synonym table and just 1 line for footers and headers.

Still, you may want to have a look at it when you finish your peppermint tea. :)

Both ways you did it are incorrect. This its how it’s supposed to be used:

1
<!–more–>
2
<!–more–>
3
<!–more–>
etc

Never thought of that…

Resource wise, I presume that multiple headers/footers is preferable over synonyms or is there little difference between the two methods?

They are just different. Synonym table is intended to synonymize and re-write your posts, while post headers and footers just add your own HTML content to every single post.
