It would be nice if it was possible to limit the word count for each section in the GPT article. Let's say I want 5 sections but not more than 1000 words overall. Then I would set a section to have a length of 200 words. Or something like length between 150 and 250 words for some variation.

You can ask GPT for this right in your directives parameter of the [gpt_article] shortcode. You can also set a strict limit on the number of generated tokens (one English word ~ 3 tokens) using the max_tokens parameter. Please read this article for more information.
