To seed my websites with content I am using ChatGPT to write original articles. My feed imports a CSV that includes a column "categories" that has values like "Ethics & Culture, Folklore & Origins".
In the basic settings I have configured:
Custom taxonomies: category,%categories%
Categories: Uncategorized [UN-CHECKED]
Test [UN-CHECKED]
Undefined categories: Create new categories defined in syndicating post
However when I create a post, the category is set to the default post category configgured in Wordpress Settings -> Writing
I do not see anything about this step in the Syndicator log. What am I missing in my setup that the post category - I am sure there must be something missed in my setup.
For what it is worth, my post tags look great with this value: %xml_tags[tags]%, but that is a placeholder allowed field.
Also I read the documentation, searched the forums, and tried to solve with dear GPTs assistance before making this post. Apologies if I missed something obvious.

Grinding on this issue with CyberSEO GPT.
I updated the column heading categories to csv_category to get away from any protected terms. I also made sure my CSV was correctly formatted with quotes for fields with commas in them. To no avail.
So I am trying to go simple - I am testing right now with a very basic dump:
title,csv_category
"Test Category Assignment1","Category A2,Category B3"
"Single Category Post4","Solo Category2"
With Treat as CSV clicked.
Custom taxonomies I've tried both category,%xml_tags[category]% and category,%xml_tags[csv_category]%
Categories: all unselected
Undefined categories: Create new categories defined in syndicating post.
No matter what I seem to try, I am unable to get the Categories set to anything but the default wordpress category.

The answer depends on how you import the CSV file and what the imported categories look like in your XML structure. If they are shown there as <categories>, you need to add the following rule into your "Custom fields" box:
If it is presented as <csv_category>, then the rule will be as follows:
The "Undefined categories" option must be set to "Create new categories defined in syndicating post".
You are absolutely right that the plugin searches for categories formatted in the standard RSS feed format:
If the categories are represented by some other tag, then it should be mapped using the "Custom fields" text field, or using Custom PHP code, for example:
or
